Hi Mike. I do look in every now and again but have not posting in a long time. Lillian celebrated her 90th birthday last June and I had my 37th a week ago and we celebrated our 64th wedding anniversary last August. Many happy memories, some of them very much to do with the ex-lancs people we met as a result of your efforts in keeping this page going. John

Hi Dennis,
Life goes by so quickly. Seems not so long ago that I sailed from Liverpool, to a new life.
The exact same port my great grand mother sailed into to escape the Irish famine. All of us seeking a new life..

Where does time go ?
On this day in 1965 The Righteous Brothers - 'You've lost that loving feeling' was top of the pops !
That's 54 years ago.
I bet a few of you can still sing (or hum) that song 😁

Happy New Year, to all!
Just read in the Rossendale Free Pres that they are contemplating starting up the Railway link to Manchester. I never did really know why they discontinued the service in the first place. Maybe, someone on the board would know. I used to catch the train everyday at 6:45am to go to Bury Convent. Later on, I worked in Manchester so I caught the steam train to Bury and the electric train into Manchester.

Hi Mike

This is what mine says: North Connacht
West Roscommon, East Mayo & North Galway, South Mayo.

I believe you are correct most of the Irish in Rossendale came from approx the same area in Ireland.

Maureen. I just got my Ancestry DNA results back. I am 100% Irish, which didn't surprise me in the least.. All grand parents both sides, came from Roscommon/Mayo Borders of Western Ireland, back as far as 1725.

You are correct Mike. The streets all look so much the same. Behind our Off License was Luke St and Mark St. Where we all used to play. By the way: I just did my Ancestry.com test. 71% Irish, 20% British, the rest Northern European!! Didn't realize I was that much Irish as I had a Welsh Grandfather and my Grandad Hardman was British as far back, as I knew.

Even though the photos were taken of Irish streets and houses, it makes sense that they look a lot like the houses in Stacksteads and Bacup as half of the people in Bacup and Stacklsteads originated from Ireland, building the houses as they knew how after their home towns and villages.

Hi Anita,
I loved going through the Glen. Especially, when the Rhododendrons were all in bloom.
I also loved walking the moors up behind our house.
When I think of the moors I remember hanging out the wash on a windy day. We can't hang washing out here. It's not dignified????
Oh well.

When I was about 9yrs old we were at Blackpool on holiday. Mum bought us a trip on a mystery tour.  When we got to the Glen I asked why we were coming home early. [smile]
